Kulir (Single Jersey): What This Fabric Is and Where It's Used

Kulir (single jersey) is a light, single-faced cotton knit with a smooth face and fine looped reverse. It is the go-to fabric for summer clothing: light, soft and breathable.

Composition and Weight

Classic kulir is 100% cotton, though a small percentage of elastane (lycra) is often added for stretch and recovery. Weight typically ranges 140–190 GSM: the higher the number, the denser and more durable the fabric.

  • Softness: gentle on the skin, ideal for children.
  • Breathability: lets air through in hot weather.
  • Stretch: moderate, higher with elastane.
  • Care: may shrink slightly; wash warm, not hot.

Where It Is Used

T-shirts, tank tops, children's and baby clothing, nightwear, loungewear and light dresses. It is the number-one workhorse for mass-produced knitwear.

Tip: for printed t-shirts choose kulir of 160 GSM or higher — it shows through less and keeps its shape better after washing.
